Paola Rizzi
Prof. Rizzi Paola is an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Turin, Italy. She teaches courses on metallic materials to students of Material Science and Chemistry. She is responsible of national research projects and she has collaborations with national and international laboratories and companies.
Her research activity is focused on synthesis and characterisation of metallic metastable systems, with focus on amorphous state, devitrification and dealloying of amorphous precursors. Glassy phases (Al, Ni, Mg, Fe, Ti, Au based alloys) are produced by rapid solidification techniques. Properties of metallic glasses and devitrified alloys are determined by structural and microstructural analyses (XRD, GIXRD, SEM, TEM, HRTEM), calorimetric studies (DSC, HTDSC, HPDSC), mechanical characterisation (Microhardness, nanoindentation, fracture surface analysis). Catalytic and optical properties are studied for nanoporous metals, synthesised by dealloying of crystalline and amorphous precursors.
Cultural heritage artworks are studied in order to determine: i) techniques used for iron smelting (in case of steel artworks); ii) production techniques of different metallic artefacts; iii) guilding techniques; iv) preservation state; v) compositions; vi) corrosion conditions.
She is author of more than 70 publications on international journals.
