Dominique Scalarone
Dominique Scalarone obtained her PhD in Chemistry in 2001. Since 2005 she has been working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Torino, where she gives courses in the Chemistry, Material Science and Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage curricula. In 2013 she obtained the national scientific qualification as Associate Professor in the academic discipline “Chemistry for the Environment and for Cultural Heritage”.
Dominique Scalarone has addressed her scientific activity to the study of organic materials, especially painting materials and protective coatings, for applications in the Cultural Heritage field. More recently she has extended her research interests to nanostructured materials, including thermoresponsive nanoparticles and polymeric nanoporous membranes for an efficient removal of emerging pollutants. She has been Principal Investigator of the local project “Polymer gels for cultural heritage” aimed at deepening the knowledge on molecular structure, properties and cleaning mechanisms of polymer gels. From January 2018 she is coordinating the European project CAPuS, Conservation of Art in Public Spaces (Erasmus Plus – Knowledge Alliances), whose main aims are the definition of guidelines for the conservation and protection of urban artworks and the design of a multidisciplinary training module on urban art conservation.
