Vito Messina

Vito Messina is assistant professor in Archaeology of Ancient Iran (University of Torino).

He is co-director of the Iranian-Italian Joint Expedition in Khuzestan (Iran) and director of the projects SigNet and (in)visible collections, held in collaboration with international Institutions.

He participated at several archaeological campaigns in Iran, Iraq, Turkmenistan and Jordan, and served as visiting professor and researcher at the University Lyon 2, University of Rome La Sapienza, and  Getty Research Institute.

He is affiliated to the Centro Scavi di Torino and Societas Iranologica Europæa, and member of the editorial boards of the Journals Parthica, Open Archaeology and Abstracta Iranica.

He obtained the PhD degree in Archaeology at the University of Torino and was awarded the Prize ‘Drouin’ of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres (Paris).

Among his key qualifications and research interests, are ‘cultural interactions in the ancient Near East and Mediterranean’, ‘new methods of documentation and preservation of endangered sites’, ‘new technologies for Cultural Heritage’, ‘administration procedures in the ancient world’, ‘royal ideology in Hellenistic Asia’.
